How to read this Cutter-Sanborn table
Select an initial letter, then read the bibliographic clues alongside their numeric codes. The browser displays the bundled lookup data used by the generator, allowing you to inspect a candidate rather than accept an unexplained number.
For example, the bundled clue Beso has code 556. The generator’s Besorio, Darwin example uses that entry. A clue is a lookup boundary, not necessarily an exact name match. In the generator, compare the displayed Matching Entry with the name you entered.
When a name is not listed exactly
The application selects the last entry at or before its normalized search string. It does not search your catalog for an established mark. Check nearby entries and your local shelf sequence before using the result.
Table lookup and local filing
Names may share a code. Shortening the code can create further collisions, and title initials may also repeat. Preserve reviewed local decisions instead of automatically replacing them with a new lookup.
