Cataloging aids and educational examples

LibCatalogTools is an independent project. The generators support table lookup and formatting, and the guides explain practical cataloging workflows. Generated values are candidates for review. They are not decisions issued by OCLC, the Library of Congress, or an examination authority.

Illustrative books, record fragments, and labels in the Learn guides are identified as teaching examples. They should not be copied into a production catalog as descriptions of real publications.

Classification and Cutter review

You supply the subject classification. The application does not consult current DDC or LC schedules, authority files, or your local catalog. LC mode uses the same Cutter-Sanborn lookup as DDC mode with different display options; it does not assign an authoritative LC Cutter. The two-digit option truncates the bundled three-digit code. Verify all results against your adopted scheme and shelf sequence.

A missing table or unmatched search may leave the fallback code 000. Investigate it before use. Locally adjusted author marks may require a label workflow that accepts the approved value directly.

Local procedures and printing

Locations, accession policies, title workmarks, and copy or volume displays vary between institutions. Adapt instructional workflows deliberately and document local choices. Print on plain paper first and compare the result with both the approved record and the actual label stock.
